DevExpress - Removing Close button from LookUpEdit

DevExpress has, no doubt, a great looking GUI for Windows applications. But it comes with a pain. Most of the events which the standard windows controls have, have been deleted/ removed/ renamed.

The name of the events/properties are not very intuitive.

Anyway.. to hide the (red cross) close button on the LookUpEdit control's popup window, you have to set the show footer to false.
LookUpEdit.Properties.ShowFooter = false;

This took me long to figure that out, because from the name of the properties it's not clear if that will do the job.
It should have been some like ShowCloseButton or something better.

Does Everything happens for our own good ?

Do you believe that "Everything happens for our own good !" ?

Before discussing this, let me tell you a good story.

Once upon a time there was a king. He was very short tempered. He had a loyal minister, very optimistic, who used to stay with him always.
One day he was entering his court. The gates of the court were huge, had spokes. As he walked by the gates, he brushed his index finger with one of the spoke and got himself hurt. Was furious about it.
To cool him down his minister said, "Lord, Don't worry. There must be something good in this. As, Everything happens for our own good" .

Listening to this, "The King", who has the right to be angry at anytime and on anyone, angrily called his guards and asked them to put him in the dungeon.
King : "Minister, what do you have to say now? ".
Minister : "Lord, Everything happens for our own good".
King : "Guard, Take him away".

Now the king, to refresh his mood, plans to go for hunting.

In the jungle, after few hours, the king finally plans to rest. As he was sleeping, the king of jungle, "Lion", came there. All the soldiers, servants to the king ran away.
The king woke up, just to find himself lying in front of a lion who was ready to eat him up. The king was numb. The lion moves around the king, smells him, sort of analyzes him and returns back. The king was happy that he is alive.

He gets back to his castle. Was happy that his life is saved, so finally decided to forgive his minister. The minister was brought to the courtyard.
King narrates the incident that happened back in the jungle. Now eager to know what the mister thinks or has to say about the incident.
King : "What do you have to say about everything since morning.? Don't you feel bad about what I have done to you ?"
Minister : "I still have to say only one thing 'Everything happens happens for your won good.'"
King (Furiously) : "You always keep on saying this. Can you justify this ?"
Minister : "Yes, ofcourse I can"
King : "OK. Go ahead. But you try and misguide me, you will be beheaded. "
Minister : "No problem. Your Highness, in case you wouldn't have cut your finger in the morning, you would have been dead already."
King (surprisingly) : "How ?"
Minister : "The lion didn't eat you because it eats whatever it hunts. It doesn't eat anything hunted by others. Seeing your finger cut, the lion didn't wanted to have you in it's meal. If you hadn't put me behind the bars in the morning, then I would have accompanied you on hunting. In that case I would have been the meal for lion. That's why I say that 'Everything happens for our own good'. "

This really makes sense. But this is you who has to believe.
Now there have been so many times that I have met so many successful people saying that "It's good that I left that company 3 years back. I am so lucky to start my own business".
So many people left their jobs and started their own business. They are happy now. But they still crib about the reasons they left the job. But hey, you should be thankful to that environment and events. Without which you wouldn't have taken this step.

Now what do you think "Does everything happens for our own good? "
I do !

Installing Windows on the Rocks !!!

You must have had vodka, whisky on the rocks but have you ever tried installing Windows on the rocks ? I did !

This is what happened with me few days back.

I had installed Windows XP on my laptop and it work working perfectly fine, except that IE was misbehaving. For 1-2 other reasons, I planned to reinstall Windows on my machine.
I guess this was a bad decision which turned out to be quite interesting and memorable.

I burned an ISO image of Windows Performance Edition on a DVD. Booted my laptop using it. Within a minute the laptop turned off.
(What was that? I thought.)
I switched on the laptop again. N within a minute it was off (What the f*** ?). Tried 2-3 times more, but no luck.
Shit, what to do ? When did i buy the notebook? Is it still under warranty?
May be! Looked through all the documents in my drawer... ahaa.. Finally found the Bill. God !! The warranty expired 3 days back.
What to do now ??? ( Shell out few thousands bucks from your pocket).
:-( Poor me !

Now what ?
Since you have to pay the vendor for getting it repaired, y not use some tricks and tweaks and try to fix it yourself. Do some R & D.
Just a sec. I remember purchasing extra RAM from Nehru Place. Could that b the problem ?? Who knows ?

I made up my mind to open the laptop and remove the RAM and try installing Windows without the additional RAM which I have bought from the gray market.
I had never opened any laptop before, but this time I did it. Removed the memory, and tried reinstalling the OS.
But alas !! Hard luck. Same problem.

Finally I packed everything and thought of going out for a movie.
As I was packing my laptop, I realized that it is very hot. (It generally doesn't heat up so much). Is this a heating problem ? Umm.... ? Pata nahi..
How can i find that ? It's summers. I don't have AC and it can't be arranged. How to make a cool environment ?

It's quite interesting what I did from here. Instead of laughing you should praise me for whatever I did. In the beginning it may sound weird.

I opened my refrigerator's door, held my laptop in front of it and tried to boot the system. (I wish this may work).
Switched on.. 10 secs.. 20 .. 40.. and switched off... Shit..
Try in front of the freezer .. yes man !! It worked for almost a minute. Wow !!!
So it's the heating problem. (I was as happy as if I completed some major research).

Now everything started moving fast. I took 3 ice trays, place the ice cubes in a utensil and on top of it my laptop.
Left a small gap so that air could reach in. Sat under the fan.

You wont' believe my system was up and running Windows in 21 minutes.
I checked to see how hot the air was coming out from heat sink. It was cold.

I gave myself a pat.

This job was quite satisfying. I was happy, picked popcorn, Coke and watched a movie (I deserve that, did a gr8 job).
